New Body is a collection of critical and creative responses to the group exhibition, Social Objects, curated by Emilia Shaffer-Del Valle at CTRL+SHFT Collective in Oakland, CA, in summer 2018. The exhibition examined communication as both practice and medium—addressing, for instance, familial connection, alternative immigration dialogues, and the relationships between queerness and labor—and focused particularly on artists identifying as FQTPOC. Composed of individual responses to each of the artists in the exhibition, New Body is an expansion of these conversations and an extension of that communicative sociality beyond the confines of the gallery.
New Body is edited by Tara Marsden and Emilia Shaffer-Del Valle. The publication includes new writing from Tatiana Luboviski-Acosta, Tara Marsden, Ruth Gebreyesus, sair goetz, el李, Sarah O’Neal, and Tania Butterworth in response to the work of Lukaza Branfman-Verissimo, Miatta Kawinzi, Liziana Cruz, Zach Ozma, Grace Rosario Perkins, Camille Lee, and Stephanie Lindquist.
