The dilemma of our time is the decay of our institutions. People have exchanged their trust for retreat. The mistrust of media and politics has resulted in an escape into either fantasy or ourselves. What has been perpetuating these insecurities is the commodification of data— who owns it, who can use it, and how it shapes us; a development labor moments of the past had feared in their infancy. My approach to design is akin to the archeologist. I dig deep into and analyze, the better to understand, reconstitute, and convey what it is I find. In this work, I have looked to Autonomia Operaia (Workers' Autonomy), not only as a case study of graphic imagery but to understand immaterial labor's journey from the factory to the digital age. This publication functions as means to apply historical knowledge to the present and, more importantly, to illustrate a democratic framework for the future.
