Some time ago I was talking with my friend Chakceel Blancas (@chakpulin) about the technological development built through textile development. We talked about the zeroes and ones binary system, which was made from the hole-punched cards used to operate the Jacquard looms. My friend Chak told me that in his community, Santo Domingo Keste in Campeche, grandmas use the same word for a backstrap loom or a computer: kematxeebe. This poster comes from that conversation. It incorporates words in Kiche Mayan and drawings made through Midjourney which mix backstrap looms and computers.
